CarTrawler and Code First Girls (CFG) – the largest provider of free coding courses and employment opportunities for women globally – have selected two candidates for a CFGdegree scholarship, empowering women through coding education and employment opportunities.

Jessie Strangeway and Tahis Hernandez Rodriguez were chosen from a pool of individuals currently employed by CarTrawler in Ireland. This selection marks the next phase of the partnership between CarTrawler and CFG following an initial eight-week Code First Girls Coding Kickstarter – Introduction to JavaScript course, where 19 women learnt fundamental coding skills.

Following completion of the CFGdegree in August this year, both women will be offered roles within CarTrawler’s technology team.

The initiative with CFG is part of a gender equity programme at CarTrawler, one element of which is to address under-representation of women in technology roles. As highlighted by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), women remain underrepresented in STEM, accounting for only 25.9% of professionals in Ireland as of 2020.

CarTrawler is one of the first Irish companies to partner with the UK-based Code First Girls initiative, which to date have provided 200,000 opportunities for women to learn to code and work with 130 industry partners to build their pipeline of diverse tech talent.
